Dragon brooch from the end of the 19th Century. Renaissance forms and motives were used in architecture as well as in jewellery design as an inspiration in the last decade of the 19th century. This style now known as Renaissance Revival was produced by some of the most famous goldsmiths like Alessandro Castellani and Carlo Giuliano. Dragons and gryphons were often found motifs. The dragon is carrying a 0.08 ct. diamond of fine quality in its beak. French hallmarks.
